Tyrell Taylor, Henry Ford JC star

Posted by Jack Whitehead on February 22, 2011

We are happy to report that Philadelphia’s own Tyrell Taylor is doing well after his first year at Henry Ford Junior College in Michigan. Taylor finished 5th in the nation in assists with an average of 7.5. He also chipped in with 11.3 ppg. Henry Ford JC finished with a record of 20-9 with Taylor in the starting lineup. Don’t miss out on this seasoned player. The reports we have received on him indicate he is very capable of running a team and is a very poised player.

Video of him in action this year as a juco freshman.

Jay Harris commits to Tennessee State

Posted by Jack Whitehead on February 21, 2011

Jay Harris

For immediate release:
March 28th, 2011, Philadelphia, PA

The RunHouse Staff is pleased to announce that one of our own, Jay Harris, has committed to play for Tennessee State today. Harris formerly of Robeson High was an All Public League selection that chose to attend Charis Prep this year. Harris averaged 20 ppg as a senior at Robeson and this year at Charis he averaged 14 ppg, 11 apg and 3 spg. Charis Prep set a team record this year with a 24-0 home record with Harris at the point. Harris also played on the Runhouse team in the 2010 season of the Philadelphia Positive Image League.

Jay was being recruited by Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Colorado State, Quinnipiac, Youngstown State, Northeastern and Central Michigan. Harris recently visited Tennessee State on a visit with his mentor Rasool Hajj. The trip to Nashville sold him on the school and the city.

Harris wants to thank his coaches at Robeson and Charis Prep for all that they have done to help him obtain his goal of playing Divison 1 basketball. We know Harris will do very well at Tennessee State and look forward to seeing him in action in the upcoming year.

Runhouse Recruit - 6′ 4″ G Barry Brockington, 14.5 ppg

Posted by Jack Whitehead on February 21, 2011

We are pleased to be working with one of Philly’s tougher players. Barry Brockington is a 6′ 4″ G/F that can give a team alot of options. He can score from the outside and also slash to the basket equally well. He also plays hard at both ends of the floor.
Brockington will make an excellent addition to any college team. Look for Brockington to play for the Runhouse team in the Philadelphia Positive Image League this spring.

A highlight video was done of him by Chris Clahar of Clahar 34 Films.

Dre’s Day to Shine - Andre Washington, Robeson HS.

Posted by Jack Whitehead on February 14, 2011

Andre Washington

From humble basketball beginnings rise the latest Robeson High School star. Andre Washington last year was a definite role player for the Huskies as he normally set picks and rebounded for All-Star guard Jay Harris. This season the 6′ 4″ slashing forward stepped up and became one of the featured players.

Displaying a talent for getting to the basket the swingman can be seen posting up taller opponents and also stepping out a bit to hit the mid range shots.

The hard work put in over the summer has yielded a 19.75 points per game average to go along with over 8 rebounds a game.

Washington’s best days are ahead of him as he adjusts more to the wing this spring in Philadelphia Positive Image League play. We know he will make the transition as easy as he did switching from role to feature player.

Runhouse-Hoops Player of the Week: Reggie Agbeko

Posted by Jack Whitehead on February 04, 2011

Reggie AgbekoStar Power has arrived to the Runhouse-Hoops program by way of 6′ 7″ swingman Reggie Agbeko. The Ashanti Assassin continues to prove he is serious about playing basketball in the USA by leading his St Joe’s team to a 69 - 48 win over St Francis. Agbeko’s stats for the game read 16 points, 18 rebounds, 5 blocks, 3 assists and 2 steals. Not bad for a kid with only about 35 games to his name.

Agbeko came back 3 days later with 11pts and 10 rebounds in a 67 - 57 win over 4th ranked Canisus. Foul trouble limited his minutes in this game but he still provided a steady influence and was tough down the stretch.

Reggie, the team back in Ghana is cheering mightily for you and say to keep those double doubles coming.

Agbeko is currently averaging 17 ppg and 11 rpg.

The Runhouse-Hoops Project is a joint venture between Runhouse.net and Cape Coast Hoops. We identify and recruit the top talent in West Africa for play in the USA.

Middle School Showcase brings rave reviews

Posted by Jack Whitehead on January 28, 2011

middle school

Local promoter Rasool Hajj recently held a 4 game middle school tournament in front of a packed house at Imhotep High School. The games were very competive and gave us a chance to see some of the up and coming talent.

The talent pool for 8th graders looks to be very strong. Pictured to the left with Imhotep’s Eric Copes in the middle is Universal Charter’s Tracy Carter and Wagner’s Darius Woods. Carter had 30 of his teams 42 points while Woods recorded 20 in last of the 4 game set.

Game 1: St Thomas 30 , Cook 23 : Brandon Cole lead the way with 19 points.

Game 2: St Martin 55, Kinsey 34: Akeem King had 12 points and 9 assists while Chris Russel poured in 18 points for the winners.

Game 3: St Thomas 45, Bethune 26: Brandon Cole once again lead with 16 points and point guard Nasir Randolf had 10 points and 7 assists.

Game 4: Wagner 52, Universal Charter 42: Wagner was lead by Darius Woods’s 20 points and 6′ 4″ forward Chase Rodger chipped in 12 points. Tracy Carter led Universal with 30 points.

Runhouse Recruit: Shaquille Bowman, 6′ 6″ F, 23ppg, 14 rpg

Posted by Jack Whitehead on January 16, 2011

Esperanza’s Shaquille Bowman is finishing off his senior year with a bang. The hard working senior can be counted on game in and and game out for at least 20 and 10.  On top of that he is an excellent passer from inside.

Coaches don’t let this player get away from you. If your looking for a forward that can control a game then don’t look any further.

Runhouse Recruit, 6′ 3″ Troy Yancy, 16.4ppg

Posted by Jack Whitehead on January 06, 2011

Arriving into camp is Troy Yancy. Yancy is an excellent 6′ 3″ wing guard. He is the possessor of an excellent jump shot and can square up on anyone. He has emerged as one of the great unknowns in the Philadelphia Public. He is another one of those players who has very good upside and would make a great addition. We will really check out his game in greater detail at our next workout but right now we like what we see. Yancy has had a 33 pt game this year and is currently averaging 16 ppg.

Runhouse Recruit - Elijah Johnson, 6′ 4″ wing 16.8ppg, Philadelphia PA

Posted by Jack Whitehead on January 04, 2011

The Runhouse team is currently working with 6′ 4″ senior guard Elijah Johnson. Johnson has been playing very well since the summer and looks poised to finish out with a bang at Lamberton High School. On the off days he has been in camp with us and will be a member of the Runhouse team in the spring Positive Image League. The kid can really hit the long ball and has very good athleticism. We think his best days are ahead of him and he will make an excellent college ball player.
