RS celebrates the academic & athletic accomplishments of outstanding students in our community. The students celebrated on this day will represent both the Philadelphia area Middle & High School population. We will also honor some college students during this award presentation that have also achieved academic success! All of the students honored have obtained a GPA of 3.0 or above, which we feel should be celebrated and acknowledged.
RS is dedicated to supporting the youth in both an athletic and most importantly academic capacity. RS cannot continue its mission without the support from you! We appreciate your support in continuing our mission and we look forward to seeing you again next year! This year we have door prizes, guest speakers and light refreshments.

The rosters will be set prior to the event. Please send the registration in as soon as possible. We have a limited number of roster spots and will contact you about a week prior to the event to let you know if you will play.
This years rosters are shaping up well. Look for an even stronger cast of players than were featured last year. Also note that we are playing 3 games this year.

JUST IN: 6′ 7″ Amir Maddred will play in the Showcase. Coming in from Camden, NJ. Maddred signed up over the weekend. This big man can do alot. Averaged 14 ppg, 12 rpg. Very versatile player. You won’t want to miss him.

Jack Whitehead

David Lawson, 6′ 1″, guard,  attended Reinhardt College in Georgia the past two seasons. Lawson is a Philadelphia native who is currently playing professional basketball in the American Basketball League (ABL). We sat down with Lawson and asked a few questions about his remarkable comeback and current pro career. 

1) You had a stellar high school career but 3 years out of high school you were not playing college basketball. What made you want to come back?

I decided to come back because my reputation was building from playing In different leagues in the city, an guys Would always ask me what college I played for and I just got tired of saying nowhere. I didn’t want to be looked at as a guy with talent but never took it anywhere after high school. I rarely watch college basketball but my dad watches a lot and he would always call me telling me I better than alot of guys playing D1 and I believed him started taking basketball serious again, I didn’t want to have regrets when I got older about not pursuing my basketball dream.

2) What’s your greatest moment in your college career?

Of course help leading my team to back to back conference championship game appearances but also my first game against a NCAA D1 team, we played Georgia Southern, I had 25pts 8reb 6stl and their head coach came on our bus and talked to our head coach for a couple minutes. Our coach told me he said “Where did you find that guard at from Philly?”  I thought that was pretty cool.

3) What’s a typical day like for you now

 We typically have practice in the morning. After that, unless my General manager takes us to talk to members of the community like Churches, recreation center, etc.., I typically just relax by the pool at the hotel until my teammates and I go get some shots up or lift weights.
