Mama

Rugged 6′ 5″ forward Mamadou “Mama” Diakite has committed to play for Beaver County Community College next year. Beaver coach DeWayne Walker got a good look at Mama during our 2011 Showcase and was very impressed with him. Diakite showed alot of determination and toughness to go along with a nice shooting stroke. Coach Walker stated ” We are thrilled about signing Mamadou. This is a young man that exhibits all the qualities that our program stands for. He is a hard worker and will no doubt play an integral role in taking Beaver County to the next level”.

Tyreek Riddick

We just got word that Tyreek Riddick of state champs Math, Civics and Science (MCS) has committed to play for Mansfield University. Riddick played very well in the 2011 Showcase and chose Mansfield over a number of Div 1 junior colleges. MCS Athletic Director Lonnie Diggs informed us that in addition to an athletic scholarship he also received an academic scholarhsip. It’s always good to hear when one of our Philly student/athletes takes the academic part seriously.

Check back soon for more posts on commitments of other 2011 Showcase Players and also a few more commitments from the Urban Sports Rescue Program.

Showcase Player Update: Warren Dogan commits

April 14th, 2011, Philadelphia, PA

We just got word today from Lonnie Diggs, AD of MCS Charter High School, that another of the 2011 Showcase players has committed. Warren Dogan, 6′ 2″ G of Math, Civics and Science (MCS) has signed a letter of intent to play at Harcum Junior College.

We knew Harcum’s coach Drew Kelly had interest in Dogan at the Showcase and asked him for a statement about him. Coach Kelly responded “Dogan averaged 14.4 ppg for a loaded MC&S squad that captured the PIAA Class A state title last month. Dogan scored 18 points in the title game.
Warren is going to be a great addition to our program. He’s tough to keep out of the lane off the dribble, and he’s a tough competitor. I’m looking forward to coaching him.”
Harcum’s assistant coach Steve Hobbs added “We are really excited about Warren! He is a talented and versatile guard! Who can score and create for others.”

We wish Dogan the best as he heads a few miles up the road to Harcum. Harcum under the leadership of head coach Drew Kelly has compiled a 147-36 record in six seasons and has become one of the top junior college basketball programs in the nation, sending 14 players on to the NCAA Division I level over the past four years. We know Dogan will be a valuable player in this system and look forward to catching him in action.

Runhouse Recruit - 6′ 4″ G Barry Brockington, 14.5 ppg

Posted by Jack Whitehead on February 21, 2011

We are pleased to be working with one of Philly’s tougher players. Barry Brockington is a 6′ 4″ G/F that can give a team alot of options. He can score from the outside and also slash to the basket equally well. He also plays hard at both ends of the floor.
Brockington will make an excellent addition to any college team. Look for Brockington to play for the Runhouse team in the Philadelphia Positive Image League this spring.

A highlight video was done of him by Chris Clahar of Clahar 34 Films.

Boys Club defeats Belfield in High School Classic

Posted by Jack Whitehead on November 19, 2009

The Boys Club defeated the Belfied in an exciting DeBose & Pembleton High School Classic. The final score was 60-48 but the game was close most of the game. Carl Wallace led the way for the Boys Club with 15 points while tournament MVP Tyree Smith had 26 for Gratz. Smith was spectacular in each game. The 6′ 5″ athletic swingman displays alot of potential and can score from anywhere on the court.
