Abington Friends star Kenny Johnson has committed to Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY. Johnson is a high energy player that helped lead his team to an 18-7 record this year. Local Philly sports writer Amos Leak had this to say about Johnson after the 2011 Showcase: “Plays with passion but has all the IQ’s of an elite player, could be a D1 player after JUCO but a very effective D2 player if he goes that rout. Either way wouldn’t be bad.”
Monroe Head Coach Jerry Burns further commented on Johnson ” We are happy Kenny chose Monroe. Kenny is exactly what we are looking for. A good defender and a slashing scorer. More importantly he comes from a good family and understands the value of being a complete player.”

Math, Civics and Sciences (MCS) 6′ 5″ PF Muhammad Amin has committed to play for East Stroudsburg next year. Amin is coming off a championship year at MCS. MCS won the PIAA Class A state championship with Amin in the starting rotation. The rugged forward is known for his rebounding and defensive toughness.
Look for Amin to fit in well with an always tough East Stroudsburg squad that has some graduations at that position.

Maurice McNeal, 6′ 3″ pg from Esperanza Academy Charter School has committed to attend Mercer County Community College. McNeal came into his own this year at Esperanza Academy. As their lead guard he averaged 12 ppg and over 5 apg.
Mercer County Assistant Coach Miles Smith stated “We are glad to have Maurice for the upcoming season. We believe that he has the ability to come in and contribute right away at the point guard position”
(Pictured on left, Mercer Asst Coach Miles Smith and Maurice McNeal)
McNeal responed “The main man who deserves all the credit is Coach Reese (Esperanza coach Maurice Davis). Without him I would have none of this. He put his trust in me to lead a team this year in my 1st year of varsity of basketball. I also have big thanks to Chris Clahar for keeping me hungry and spending time in the gym consecutively to help me perfect my game. Without their help to be honest I probably would have lost my interest in basketball a long time ago.”
We know McNeal well as he is the starting point guard on our Runhouse team in the Positive Image league. We are confident in his ability and see a bright future ahead.
The RunHouse team goes to 1-1 in Positive Image League play with a 85-74 win over PYO. The team picked up a couple of important additions this week in Keith Washington (15 pts) and Dijon Wright (10 pts). Leading the way was Elijah Johnson (20 pts) and Darrell Robinson (16 pts). Also in double figures was Barry Brockington (12 pts) . Maurice McNeal aslo had a strong game with 8 pts and 9 assists.

We just got word today from Lonnie Diggs, AD of MCS Charter High School, that another of the 2011 Showcase players has committed. Warren Dogan, 6′ 2″ G of Math, Civics and Science (MCS) has signed a letter of intent to play at Harcum Junior College.
We knew Harcum’s coach Drew Kelly had interest in Dogan at the Showcase and asked him for a statement about him. Coach Kelly responded “Dogan averaged 14.4 ppg for a loaded MC&S squad that captured the PIAA Class A state title last month. Dogan scored 18 points in the title game.
Warren is going to be a great addition to our program. He’s tough to keep out of the lane off the dribble, and he’s a tough competitor. I’m looking forward to coaching him.”
Harcum’s assistant coach Steve Hobbs added “We are really excited about Warren! He is a talented and versatile guard! Who can score and create for others.”
We wish Dogan the best as he heads a few miles up the road to Harcum. Harcum under the leadership of head coach Drew Kelly has compiled a 147-36 record in six seasons and has become one of the top junior college basketball programs in the nation, sending 14 players on to the NCAA Division I level over the past four years. We know Dogan will be a valuable player in this system and look forward to catching him in action.
6′ 5″ wing guard Markeith Mont has commited to play for Coach Rolando DeLaBerra at Western Oklahoma State Junior College. Mont made a strong showing in our recent 2011 Philadlephia Unsigned Senior Showcase.
One local writer, Amos Leak, had this to say about his play in the showcase on his blog. “Markeith Mont (World Comm.) 6′5″ scored 16 pts. & makes all the proper decisions. This kid was all public/all city/all state and the mvp of his division and one of the top scorers in the city this year, scoring well over 1,000 points in his career. With JUCO or Prep School, he’s definitely D1. He’s gotten looks from VCU, LaSalle & Rider at one point. He definitely can play the game.”
Coach DeLaBerra said after the showcase “We are very pleased to have Markeith sign with Western Oklahoma State College. We feel he will be an intregal part of our success in the coming year.”
We wish Mont all the best. There were many players at the showcase receiving offers. Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming weeks.
