Showcase player David Lawson has accepted a scholarship to play for Reinhardt College in Georgia. Lawson was one of leading scorers in the 2010 Showcase we held in Philadelphia this year. He resurfaced to the formal basketball scene this year after a couple of years of working full time and attending college. Lawson was a big time scorer at Reading High School averaging over 18 ppg. He has been playing mainly in the Philadelphia Rec Leagues lately and just finished up a successful run in the very competitive Marion Anderson Recreation Center where he averaged 22ppg.
We spoke to Coach Pourchier of Reinhardt College and he was very excited about landing Lawson. The coach stated that Lawson out performed many players when he came for his visit and has high expectations for him. Lawson is a very mature young man and has worked hard to continue his career. He might have taken a different path to collegiate basketball but he has landed here just the same.
We asked Lawson a few questions and here are his responses:
1. Your already at a college and scheduled to play for them next year. The
college is close to home. Why switch and go to Reinhardt in Georgia.
After finding out i only had 2 years of eligibility i didnt want to use one of them at the Juco.
2. What did you like most about Reinhart when you went on your visit?
When i went to Reinhardt i liked the coaches and got along with the other players well, also the up tempo style of play really fits my game. I think i will fit in the system well.
3. What are you currently doing to sharpen your game so that you will be ready
for the upcoming season?
Right now I play in the Vare league down South Philly, also my Father, Crawford Burley, is going to start holding workouts at Connie Mack again in July, so i know he will have me in top shape for the Fall. Working out with him will help fine tune my game from both a mental and physical aspect.
