6′ 8″ Samuel Ouedraogo commits to TCI in NYC

Posted by Jack Whitehead on May 15, 2010

Sam Former Cape Coast Hoops player Samuel Ouedraogo has accepted a scholarship today to the Technical Careers Institute (TCI) in New York City. TCI plays at the D1 level of the NJCAA.

The 6′ 8″ forward moved to the states last year and was scheduled to participate in our 2010 Showcase. Due to work commitments he could only attend the showcase prior to the 1st game but he did workout for a few coaches that morning. Coach Pernell Hosier of TCI took one look at the very active big man and knew he had a player. The next day “Big Sam” was at TCI talking to Coach Hosier about playinig for TCI this upcoming season. Says a source close to the player ”Sam is a very athletic and energtic post player that brings every thing he has to every play. He can dominate games at times and once he puts it all together he will be a force for TCI.”

Sam is a bit too old to play Div 1 after his career at TCI so we will be helping him find a good fit at the NAIA or Div 2 level.

Berend Weijs commits to ACC team

Posted by Jack Whitehead on May 14, 2010

Berend Weijs We had been putting the word out to schools that this unheralded player from Harcum Junior College was a sleeper that you didn’t want to pass on. The schools that saw him workout started to take notice and the offers started to come last month.

Berend called me last night and told me he was on his way back from the University of Maryland. He also informed me that he gave his commitment to them to make it official. We are very happy to see Berend make the commitment and look forward to seeing him in that Terrapin Red. The 6′ 10″ multifunctional forward can step out and hit jumpers, rebound and block shots. He is also very athletic and gets up and down the court very well.

Bryton Hawthorne
Bryton Hawthorne, 6′ 2″ PG, New Media Charter School has made is college selection. He will play for Immaculata University next year. Hawthorne was a recent participant of the 2010 Showcase and is an All-Public Honorable Mention selection.

From the Press Release:

Bryton will be attending Immaculata University in the fall. Thanks to assistant coaches AJ D’Angelo and Harrison Singer; they showed a real interest in Bryton during the latter part on the season. The school is about an hour away and offers small class sizes with a strong academic reputation. Bryton will get a real opportunity to contribute to an already successful program.

Bryton: “The coaching staff made me feel welcomed. And after visiting and sitting in classes for a day, I felt comfortable in that environment. I went to a game during the season and liked the way they ran the ball and let everyone play. As a point guard, you gotta love that! They also have a strong basketball tradition thanks to the women’s program. They get great fan support every game. It should be a lot of fun”.
